Dr. Bonnett visits Great Day SA host Paul Mireles about Klarisana and what goes into creating a positive experience for patients. The number of medical centers around the country offering outpatient ketamine infusion therapy is growing rapidly. The growing acceptance of this innovative therapy is opening the door for many Americans who suffer from treatment-resistant depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, postpartum depression, and many forms of chronic pain to have a unique opportunity to find relief from these conditions. At the same time, it can be a little confusing for potential patients to know what to look for in a center that offers ketamine infusions. In this interview, Dr. Carl J. Bonnett discusses how ketamine infusion therapy is much more than just a matter of providing an intravenous medication in a “cookbook” fashion. The experiential aspect of a ketamine infusion is also critical to the success of a treatment series. Dr. Bonnett introduces the concept of the Psychotropic Therapeutic Response (PTR) and how this is critical to the success of ketamine therapy. In order to have a productive experience, it is important for clinicians to actively participate in the process with their patients and create an individualized dosing plan. The setting of a ketamine infusion is also fundamentally important. Many clinics around the country, unfortunately, have chosen to cut costs and perform infusions on multiple patients in the same room. Dr. Bonnett feels very strongly that this is extremely counterproductive. In his experience, patients have the greatest success when they receive their infusions in a private, safe, and comfortable space.
